Ever wondered what the equivalent of “oink oink” is in other languages? It seems kind of odd that there would be so may variations on it given that the words are relatively meaningless in the first place, but this list put together by the Georgetown University Linguistics Department is a handy reference to the sounds that humans make to imitate pigs around the world. “Hu-lu hu-lu” is what the Chinese apparently say. Some languages like German and Dutch don’t even have their own versions. And then there’s the Thai version – “ood ood” – which is supposed to be made in a “high tone.” I can’t really imagine a situation where any of this information would be useful, but if you’re planning to travel abroad soon and think there is a remote possibility you might encounter some pigs…then here you go!
