Thanks to the Junk Food Blog, I recently stumbled across a German snack food called “Peppies.” Peppies are bacon-flavored puffy wheat snacks.

Upon learning about this product, I moseyed over to GermanDeli.com and ordered a bag (and since they have a $25 minimum order policy and a bag of Peppies is only $2.99, I bought a few other German bacon treats that I’ll write about later).

Peppies do not have an overwhelming taste of bacon – it’s not like eating a pork rind, a snack that is not shy about shouting “pork is delicious!” to the world. But Peppies do have a nice subtle bacon-y taste, and the puffiness makes them satisfying but not too filling. I can definitely imagine lounging on the couch watching basketball and downing a bag of these. Unfortunately that will not be possible until I find a local grocery store that carries Peppies because I certainly don’t need to order a dozen bags at a time…

But if you want to try Peppies yourself, you can load up at GermanDeli.com. Also, check out the corporate website for Peppies for some entertainment. There’s even a little game of “catch the snacks in the bag” to play.
