Yesterday I mentioned on Twitter that United had lost one of my suitcases during my flight back to the East Coast last night. This situation was unfortunate only because I had a pound of bacon in the bag that was stored in a soft cooler with some ice. It was packed well enough to endure a 5 hour flight without spoiling, but probably not packed well enough to survive over 24 hours in Lost Baggage Land.

So my bag was finally delivered to me tonight, and as I opened it to evaluate the situation I was confused because I couldn’t find the cooler bag. I immediately began to get angry and started to imagine all sorts of scenarios in which an overzealous TSA agent once again overstepped boundaries and decided to ban bacon on a whim. But as I pawed through layers of clothes, I finally reached the bottom of the bag where I discovered a black trash bag. And in that black trash bag was my cooler. And in that cooler was my bacon, still – miraculously – cool to the touch.

The cooler bag was sopping wet from the ice that was in it. Apparently when it was discovered that my bag had missed the flight last night, a very mindful, bacon-loving United baggage employee took it upon themselves to search my bag and wrap the cooler in a trash bag, knowing I wouldn’t be seeing the bag for several more hours.

Therefore, I officially take back all the nasty things I’ve said about United Airlines over the years (and that’s a lot of ‘taking back’ to do). This is truly a bacon miracle!
