This is my 600th blog entry here on Bacon Unwrapped.
So I thought I’d take a moment to reflect on my life with the Best Meat Ever over the last four years, because when you add it all up it’s really kind of insane!
- 600 blog entries in the last 4 years. My first post on this blog was on June 3, 2005, and if I remember correctly, I was in Seoul, Korea staying at the W Hotel – that was back when I was doing a bunch of international travel for work. However, the concept of this blog had initially been hatched over drinks with my brothers a few days/weeks/months before then (none of us quite remember – that’s the problem with starting a blog after a night of drinking). But because the blog had been “in development” for some time prior to launching Bacon Unwrapped, my initial blog entries were about a trip my family took to Hawaii for Thanksgiving in November 2004, where bacon had been the theme of a few meals (including one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever eaten, which I talk about in my upcoming book).
- Over 400 Tweets in the last couple years. I started Tweeting about bacon on August 13, 2007 (and not because Oprah and Ashton told me to). I still remember writing my first Tweet – I was at a work dinner in Arlington, VA with two colleagues and someone from the Department of Transportation who we were pitching on a project…although I clearly wasn’t working very hard that night!
- 238,244 people have visited Bacon Unwrapped since it was launched.
- My most popular entry ever is the one I wrote about Bacon Wrapped Tater Tots. 22,310 people have been tempted by that culinary delight to date.
- There are over 50,000 words in my book, Bacon: A Love Story, which is being released in 11 days. A couple people have recently asked me how long the writing process took. I have absolutely no idea because it was spread out over several months – hundreds of hours that felt like thousands at times. But what I do know is that the entire process of producing the book from proposal to publish was 29 months – I had no idea it takes so long to produce a book! This whole process has definitely been a learning experience.
- 1 out of every 25 words in my book is the word “bacon”. While that seems like a lot, I was actually kind of expecting it to be more!
- Bacon: A Love Story is currently ranked in the 10 most popular Meat books on Amazon.com (#6 last time I checked, although it changes hourly). But most importantly, it’s ranked ahead of Sandra Lee’s book about grilling (thank God). It would be so awesome to hit #1 on May 12…click here if you want to help make that happen!
So that’s my life in bacon, folks. The fact that I’ve stopped whatever else I’m doing to write something about bacon over 1000 times in my life is kind of crazy to think about!
