I met up with some friends for dinner on the Friday night of my bacon tour of Manhattan. We hadn’t made a reservation anywhere, and therefore our options were limited. We ended up at the recently opened Commerce Restaurant in Greenwich Village, a space that had previously been occupied by the popular Grange Hall.
My friends had dined there when it was Grange Hall, but none of us had eaten at the new restaurant. So we had no expectations. And quite honestly, the reason we ended up at Commerce is because there was only a 30 minute wait for a table. That is almost unheard of in Manhattan on a Friday night.
Even though Commerce was not on my bacon tour list, and despite the circumstances under which we ended up there, we had a nice meal. Of course I went in search of something bacon-related on the menu, and I settled on the Carbonara. It was the perfect dish for a cold, snowy night as it was. Also, one thing I really like about Commerce are the portion sizes – not too small, not too big. Just right.
So while there aren’t many bacon options on the menu to choose from at Commerce, the Carbonara is definitely worth visiting for. And the cozy, casual atmosphere of this bistro-style restaurant tucked away in a quiet corner of the Village makes it a great place to enjoy a meal with friends.
